Wagner - Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral

from The Danserye by UPEI Wind Symphony

/

about

This is a transcription from Richard Wagner's opera (or musical drama) "Lohengrin" and appears towards the beginning of Act II as Elsa and her bridal party enter the cathedral for her marriage to Lohengrin, the mystic Knight of the Holy Grail. The music is melody driven and expressive, starting very quietly and building to a massive crescendo at the end, where the huge resources of full orchestra and double chorus would be apparent.
