Susato - Selection from The Danserye: VII. Ronde & Aliud

from The Danserye by UPEI Wind Symphony

/

about

Tielman Susato, a 16th-century composer, was best known as a music publisher and entrepreneur. He is credited with raising the standard of music publishing. The Danserye is a set of over 50 instrumental dances based on popular tunes of that time, arranged by Susato and published in 1551. Specific instrumentation is not indicated, suggesting that the tunes were performed by whatever combination of instruments were available. "Selection from The Danserye" utilizes the full resources of the modern wind band, featuring various sections (or consorts of instruments) alternating with powerful tutti passages. These dances are infused with a healthy dose of contemporary percussion effects and a significant part for acoustic guitar.
