Grainger - Colonial Song

from Kokopelli's Dance by UPEI Wind Symphony

/

about

Colonial Song began as a piano solo Grainger wrote in 1911 as a gift to his mother. It represents a comparatively rare instance of Grainger relying on an original melody rather than folk sources. Grainger created versions of the piece for different ensembles, but it is the band version that is most frequently performed. In this piece, Grainger sought to express sentimental feelings aroused by thoughts of the scenery and people of his native Australia.
